Our Markham-based client, is technology and manufacturing company specializing in advanced cooling and heat transfer solutions that improve production efficiency, preserve product quality, and reduce energy use for industrial and food processing customers. Their patented systems deliver precise temperature control and scalable performance for demanding manufacturing environments.
They are looking for a Sr. Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting function. You will lead financial reporting, manage the general ledger, ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements, and support external audits. You will drive budgeting and forecasting, enhance internal controls and accounting processes, and provide clear insights to guide decision making. This is a hands-on role in a growing manufacturing environment where you will also mentor junior staff and help scale systems as the business expands.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and prepare management reports and dashboards.
- Monitor KPIs, margins, and operating performance to assess company health and trends.
General Ledger and Reconciliations:
- Own the general ledger, including review and approval of journal entries.
- Lease/Sale revenue recognition accounting.
- Perform and oversee bank, inventory, intercompany, and sub-ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain a robust month-end and year-end close process with clear checklists and timelines.
- Bank Reporting.
Compliance, Tax, and Audits:
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Coordinate and support external audits and reviews, preparing schedules and documentation.
- Ensure tax compliance in coordination with external advisors where needed. Budgeting and Forecasting • Lead and assist in annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasts, and cash flow planning.
- Provide analysis to support revenue projections, COGS, operating expenses, and capital planning.
Process Improvement and Controls:
- Develop, document, and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting workflows and reporting.
- Support accounting system optimization to improve accuracy and speed.
Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff. Delegate responsibilities and review work for quality.
- Partner with Operations on manufacturing costing, inventory valuation, and production variances.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and growth.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience. Manufacturing industry and international sales experience is strongly preferred.
- Accounting designation is required or in final stages of completion.
- Deep knowledge of accounting principles and standards, including GAAP.
- Proficient with accounting software. Experience with QuickBooks or similar systems is an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, with strong data accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial insights to non-finance stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced, scaling environment.
- Experience mentoring or supervising junior team members.
Compensation: $100,000 to $120,000, Benefits, PTO
